Shane Wakelin is one of the most popular and richest Australian Rules Footballer who was born on August 12, 1974 in Whyalla, Australia. Wakelin was born in Whyalla, South Australia on 12 August 1974, just a only a few minutes before that of his twin brother Darryl who was born at midnight on the 11th of August. When Wakelin was just six months old, his family relocated from Kimba, South Australia where his father tended sheep. Wakelin had turned 13 years old when he relocated from Kimba to Port Lincoln, South Australia. When he was 16, the two brothers were hired by the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club Port Adelaide and they made the decision to relocate to Adelaide.

Wakelin was a part of five of the 22 matches of the 1997 AFL season’s home and away series, during that St Kilda qualified in first position for the 1997 AFL Finals Series and won the club’s second Minor Premiership and 1st McClelland Trophy.

Wakelin married Ligita in 2003 and they now have two children – daughter Charley Elizabeth, and son Tom Leo.

In 2003 Wakelin appeared on a shampoo commercial for Sunsilk Base Elements, which also featured fellow Collingwood players Brodie Holland and Richard Cole. This wooden performance earned him the “Tool of the Year” on AFL variety show Before the Game.

Wakelin is one of four St Kilda players featured at the beginning of 1995’s music video Greg! The Stop Sign!! performed by Australian rock group TISM.

Shane Wakelin (born 12 August 1974) is an ex-professional Australian rules soccer player who was a part of St Kilda Football Club and the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Affiliated to Port Adelaide by St Kilda during The 1992 AFL Draft, Wakelin debuted in the Australian Football League (AFL) in 1994. He was praised for his dedication to defending St Kilda and, during the latter half of the 1990s, he was part of a defensive unit along with the twins of Darryl which was thought to be very efficient.

After playing only four games in 2000 he became disgruntled with St Kilda and was later picked up by Collingwood Football Club, where he reignited his career and continued his trademark consistency as a defender.
