Shane Lundgren Biography

Shane Lundgren is one of the most popular and richest Explorer who was born on March 21, 1961 in Palo Alto, California, United States. The Great Grandfather of Lundgren is John Adam Zehntbauer, founder of Jantzen in Portland in 1915. He was the son of his father Kim Lundgren founded Air Berlin in 1978.

In the course of extensive travels through Russia following the fall the Berlin Wall, Lundgren conceived an idea for a trans-Siberian flying (barnstorming fashion) using Russian Antonov An-2 biplanes. He was the leader of his first “online expedition,” sponsored by WIRED magazine, Magnavox, and Apple. The journey started in Moscow and continued to the north from the Arctic Circle across Siberia to Magadan. In 1995 the Smithsonian Institute’s Arctic Studies Center joined Lundgren on another airborne expedition to document the indigenous peoples of Yakutsk across Alaska through the Bering Straits. Discovery Online was launched through this trip. Lundgren was later able to establish WorldSight which was the first online magazine.

In 1998 Lundgren went to work for Pembroke Capital in Dublin Ireland where he began to work in commercial aircraft leasing and finance. Lundgren led the North Pole Flight sponsored by Pembroke Capital. From 2000-2012 he was actively involved in aircraft asset sales and leases from the Air Berlin fleet. He is currently the CEO of Metolius Aviation Capital, which he founded in 2015, and is a private investor in commercial aviation assets for high net worth individuals and institutions.

Lundgren served on the Black Butte School Board from 2007-2017, and was also the President of the Black Butte School Foundation, which funds scholarships to local students annually.

Lundgren is a native of Palo Alto, California. He was a student at in the University of San Diego and earned an economics degree as well as history, in the year 1984. In addition, he went to National Air College and obtained his Commercial Pilot License, Instrument Rating, Multi-Engine Rating , and the Instructors’ Flight Rating. At the age of 21, years old, Shane was screened out of the Boeing 737 by Air Berlin USA which was founded by his dad Kim Lundgren in Berlin, Germany. In the year 1982, Shane was one of the youngest pilots who flew commercially in the 737.

Shane Christopher Lundgren (born March 21 1961) is an American businessman and aviator who is the chief executive officer of Metolius Aviation Capital. Shane has been involved in the commercial aviation industry as well as engine leasing and aircraft leasing as well as finance throughout his career.

Lundgren was a pilot in Air Berlin from 1982 through 2012. Following the fall of Berlin wall, he worked alongside his father on the transition of the airline to an US airline to becoming a German airline. It was the first airline to ever change the nationality. Following an IPO that took place in 2006, and then the transfer of its shares to Etihad in 2012, he left Air Berlin.

Lundgren led polar expeditions in 1997 and 1998, and was filmed by National Geographic Television in a documentary about the original polar flights.
