Sergey Musaelyan is one of the most popular and richest Pianist who was born on November 23, 1950 in Moscow, Russia. Sergey Aleksandrovich Musaelyan (Russian: Sergei Aleksandrovich Musaelian ; born 23rd November 1950 in Moscow) is a Russian pianist from Russia.
In 1988, Sviatoslav Richter became interested in Sergey’s work. At first, Richter in his diaries wrote Musaelyan rather contradictory portrayals. In the end, Richter began to support Musaelyan and with his assistance, the pianist began giving concerts outside of his home country of the Soviet Union. In the 80s and 1990s, Sergey Musaelyan has toured in Europe, North and South America, Korea, and China.
In 2011, Sergey Musaelyan was involved in the creation of the Yakov Flier Piano Arts Development Fund. He participated in a festival to mark Flier’s 100th anniversary in 2012. The festival was also attended by other students of Flier: M.Pletnev with the Russian National Orchestra, V.Feltsman, I.Berkovich, D.Ratser, A.Zandmanis, M.Abramyan, I.Olovnikov and others.
In 1988, Sergey Musaelyan met famous Finnish journalist and musicologist Seppo Heikinheimo. Musaelyan has performed over 100 performances in Finland throughout the year thanks to Heikinheimo’s assistance. In 1989, the pianist presented an evening recital to The Red Cross in Geneva. Along with Araik Babajanyan, he founded the Arno Babajanyan Memorial Foundation in the year 1990. Festivals to honor the memory of Babajanyan have been held throughout Moscow, Yerevan and Los Angeles. A first chamber music international event staged in Mikkeli (Finland) was a collaboration between Musaelyan as the Artistic Director along with Vladimir Ashkenazy as Honorary President. After 2000 , the pianist performed concerts in Russia as well as toured across the United States, Denmark and Poland.

The first piano lessons he took began with the help of his mom Eleonor Musaelyan. In 1958, he was accepted into the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory and studied with A.Sumbatyan, T.Bobovitch, E.Musaelyan and E.Timakin. After completing his studies at the Central Music School he was admitted to the Moscow Conservatory. He began his studies with G.Axelrod before he was paired under the Professor Y.Flier, who worked as a pianist, teacher as well as a People’s Artist from the USSR. After the Conservatory, Musaelyan enrolled in his graduate program at the Gnessin Institute and studied with Professor B.Berlin.
He was a participant at the Vianna da Motta International Music Competition in Lisbon. In the same year, he was a member of Mosconcert and began to perform concerts throughout the USSR.
Since 2005 Sergey Musaelyan has also been engaged in teaching, giving master classes at University of Texas–Pan American (USA, Texas) and the M.M .Ippolitov-Ivanov State Musical Pedagogical Institute in Moscow, and lecturing on pianistic art in different countries.
