His mother was murdered by robbers on July 4, 2004 along as their stepfather Alexey Dmitrievich Tarkhanov (1926-2004). His mother was employed for the entirety of her life in an arms factory. The stepfather of his was also a soldier from the war. Sergei assisted him financially to undergo surgery to treat throat cancer.
His first appearance was on April 1st 1987, at an event celebrating The Day of laughter. It was the debut show in September of the Morning mail along with Black Sea.
In 1989 he joined Valery Leontiev and his group “Echo” on a trip to India and where they made a concert film Made in India.
In 1992 Krylov appeared in the role of Ostap Bender in the movie Vasily Pichul’s Idiot Dreams.
He was married to Larisa Makarova. With her they had a daughter Karolina (born on January 31st of 1980). Then he got married to Lyubov Dubovik. Together they had a son Yan (born on November 5 1991).

In 1977, he graduated from the music school. In 1978, he graduated from the high school No. 49 in Tula. Between 1981 and 1985, he attended the Yaroslavl theatre institute. In 1986, he was a part of the All-Union Studio SPM “Record” (Moscow).
In March 1987, he recorded a solo album of 11 songs called The Illusion of Life.
