Ross was the United States champion and NCAA champion in the javelin event in 2002. She was a two-time representative for her country internationally, in the Summer Universiade in 2001 and the IAAF World Cup in 2002.
The 2002 season was the highest point in her career. The year began in the weight throw and took 15th in the NCAA Indoor Championships. In the outdoor events, she concentrated on javelin, and finished third in the Mt. SAC Relays, before setting the personal record at 57.30 meters (187 feet 11/4 inches) to claim the first Big Ten Conference title in the javelin. Her javelin throw broke an American record for javelin event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a throw of 59.64 meters (195 8 inches). This was only one of two Purdue woman to earn the NCAA award (after Corissa Yasen’s 1996 heptathlon victory). She followed this with the first and sole national championship of her career in 2002 at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and improved her American mark up to 60.06 m (197 feet / 2 inches) during the process. This record only lasted a month when Kim Kreiner (the runner-up at the national competition) was able to throw 60.68 meters (199 ft 4 in) in July. Ross was picked to be part of the 2002 IAAF World Cup team and ended up finishing fifth in the competition.

The girl was born in Edinburg, Pennsylvania, she was a student at Wilmington Area High School before beginning her sociology studies in Purdue University between 1997 and 2002. At Purdue, she participated in NCAA competitions for Purdue Boilermakers. Purdue Boilermakers team, with her first big win was 7th in javelin throwing during the 1999 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Ross competed at national level during her participation in the 2000 United States Olympic Trials she placed 19th in qualifying. At her college, she competed in both javelin and hammer throwing events during the year. In the NCAA Championships she was 13th in javelin and 18th the hammer. Ross won her first regional victory in the hammer throw in the Big Ten Conference championships. Ross was able to climb the javelin rankings of the nation by finishing sixth in the 2001 NCAA Championships, then third place at the 2001 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This performance gave her the opportunity to compete for America at the United States at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics, however, she was not able to meet the standard required for qualifying within the specified time. After setting a personal best at 54.72 m (179 feet 6 inches) in the USATF Midsummer Classic meet, Ross made her debut on the international stage during the Summer Universiade, where she was with a seventh place overall. Ross was ranked 4th in the United States that year.
Ross gained a professional sponsorship deal with Nike, Inc. but did not compete at a high level in 2003. She returned to competition in 2004 and had a season’s best of 57.25 m (187 ft 9 ⁄4 in). At the 2004 United States Olympic Trials she was the second highest qualifier, but did not improve in the final round and placed fifth with a mark of 53.20 m (174 ft 6 ⁄4 in). She did not compete at a high level after the 2004 season. As she had not formally retired, she was still under USA Track & Field rules and subsequently failed a doping test in 2006 for two banned diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene). She was banned for two years from the sport, although she had not been competing during that period regardless.
