Serafim Todorov is one of the most popular and richest Boxer who was born on July 6, 1969 in Peshtera, Pazardzhik, Bulgaria. Serafim Simeonov Todorov (Bulgarian: Serafim Simeonov Todorov born on 6 July 1969) is a Bulgarian former amateur boxer. He was the recipient of three gold medals consecutively at at the World as well as the European Championships, and silver at the 1996 Olympics. He was the only boxer to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr., although it was through a highly controversial decision. He became one of the greatest fighters in the world of professional boxing.
In in 1996’s Summer Olympics, Todorov qualified to the semi-finals , where the teenager American, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Todorov won by 10-9, but some observers believed that Mayweather had the upper hand. The referee lifted Mayweather’s hands at the conclusion of the fight. Todorov continued to the final, where the winner was Somluck Kamsing of Thailand and was awarded an Olympic silver medal. A majority of the people believe that Emil Jetchev, the Bulgarian chairman of the international referees and the judges’ commission was the one who orchestrated the victory of Todorov. Jetchev was forced out after the fight due to allegations of improper play. Todorov will not dismiss the possibility but claims that Jetchev was also the one who was the one who orchestrated his unfair loss in the final to Kamsing at the end of the match.
After his win in the fight against Mayweather, Todorov rejected a lucrative offer from a consortium of American promoters of boxing. Todorov believed that, if he been the winner of that gold-medal in 1996 and it was likely that the Bulgarian Boxing Federation would provide more financial support than the contract he was negotiating would have. But he was not given much support , and decided to change nationalities to represent Turkey in the 1997 World Amateur Boxing Championships. However, the Bulgarian Boxing Federation barred this move and Todorov was unable to represent his country, thereby ending his amateur boxing career in 2003. In 2015, Todorov is living in Pazardzhik.
