Seohyun is born Seo Ju-hyun, born on June 28 1991, at Seoul, South Korea, and is the sole daughter in the household. Her mother was director at a piano school in Seoul. Seohyun was taught to play the piano as well as violin , and traditional Korean drums during her early years. She also took the sport of horseback riding and skating in her youth. The parents of her did not push her to be a famous person but Seohyun acknowledged them as those who helped her select her career path through letting her try diverse experiences. In fifth grade, Seohyun was discovered by an audition scout on the subway. She sang songs for children during the audition held at SM Entertainment, and was accepted as an apprentice. Seohyun mentioned BoA, S.E.S and Fin.K.L. as her primary influences in her decision to sing and songwriter, saying “I thought it was cool to show and communicate the emotions through songs”. in August of 2007, Seohyun became the first member of the girl group Girls Generation. They gained huge acclaim due to its release of the smash track “Gee” in 2009.

She went on to major in theatre acting and graduated from Dongguk University in August 2014, receiving an achievement award at the graduation ceremony.
