The best performance of his 2012 season was tied for 19th at the Sicilian Open. He was selected to play in the Open Championship in 2012 Open Championship through Local Final Qualifying at West Lancashire where he had the final round of 64, which included two chip-ins along his way to 7-under par for the back nine. Pinckney was born in Orem, Utah. He was a student at Boulder Creek High School in Anthem, Arizona and then Arizona State University from the year 2008 to the year 2011. He took home his first title in 2010 at the Trans-Mississippi Amateur Championships at Denver Country Club after shooting a 6-under par of score of 204 (69-66-66) and defeating Kevin Tway on the second playoff hole.
Pinckney became a professional in July of 2011. The remainder of 2011 Pinckney played in a variety events on the Challenge Tour events. He also competed at the Nordea Masters where he finished tied for 35th place and at the Irish Open where he missed the cut. He placed 24th at his final round of the European Tour Qualifying School and received one of his cards for 2012. He barely made the cut in the fourth round, but a final round of 65 lifted him up from the 66th position following round 5 to 24th.
Pinckney played on the Web.com Tour in 2014 after earning his tour card through qualifying school. He finished 13th (excluding the regular-season Top 25) in the 2014 Web.com Tour Finals to earn his PGA Tour card for the 2014–15 season.
