He was a part of Major League Baseball for the Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals between 2005 and 2010.
In a 7-6 defeat to the New York Mets on July 9 in 2006 the incident occurred that involved then-teammate Miguel Cabrera. As he was pitching for Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca, Lo Duca hit a hard, high-speed grounder that slid off the glove of Cabrera and bounced to the left side of. The run was scored, as Lo Duca raced to second for a second double. The ball flew off the glove of Cabrera, Olsen believed that Cabrera didn’t give his all to the ball. And when they left onto the playing field Olsen was seen screaming an insult at Cabrera. Later, TV cameras captured Cabrera in the dugout crowded with players pushing past his players to point his fingers at Olsen as the pitcher moved across the field. Olsen tried to poke back at Cabrera and he charged Olsen and attempted to kick the pitcher . However, both players were swiftly separated by their teammates.
With his 166 strikeouts in 2006, Olsen held the single-season record for the most strikeouts by a Marlins rookie until it was broken in 2013 by José Fernandez. He had two 10-or-more strikeout games: 11 vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 27 and 10 vs. the New York Mets on August 1. His 11-strikeout performance against Pittsburgh was the most by any Marlins pitcher during the 2006 season.
During the 2006 season with the Florida Marlins, Olsen went 12–10 with a 4.04 ERA. With his 10+ wins and the 10+ wins of his fellow rookies Josh Johnson, Ricky Nolasco and Aníbal Sánchez, the 2006 Marlins became the first team in Major League Baseball history with four rookie pitchers with ten or more wins in one season.

Olsen was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He attended middle school for his time living in Stevensville, Michigan, and was a student at Lakeshore Middle School then attended Crystal Lake South High School in Crystal Lake, Illinois, in high school, where he made all-league in baseball. He was selected 173rd overall in the sixth selection of 2002’s Major League Baseball Draft by the Florida Marlins.
Olsen was a rookie with the MLB in 2005, with the Florida Marlins. The team reinstated him on the 25th of June the 25th of June, 2005 when the pitcher Josh Beckett went on the disabled list. Olsen only won one game and one loss over five games, and posted an 3.98 ERA during the season however, he was later put on the disabled list due to injuries to his elbow.
