Maine was selected to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB draft, and then signed. Maine played in eight games for the Short-Season Yakima in 2007 and was one-for-one and sporting a 6.10 ERA and 1 save and striking out 20 batters in 10.1 innings. Maine was a part of the 2008 advanced A Visalia Oaks, where in 32 games, he was 3-1 and had a 3.19 ERA and 5 saves and struck out 53 batters in 48 innings. Maine was a part of the 2009 season at the Double-A Mobile up until the time he got elevated to Triple-A Reno during the final one month in the season of minor leagues. In his 48 games, he was 4-5 in the league, with 2.90 ERA and 7 saves with 61 strikeouts over 62 innings. In the course of the 2009 season Maine became a trade partner for the Diamondbacks together with Ryne White, who was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Aaron Heilman. Maine was also a part of with the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League.

On November 14, 2012, Maine was claimed off waivers by the Miami Marlins. He began the year with Triple-A New Orleans, but was released on July 20 after throwing 20 games in the Marlins organization, 9 of them on a rehab assignment with the GCL Marlins. In those 20 games, he had a 4.19 ERA with 3 saves, striking out 26 in 19.1 innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays claimed Maine off waivers from the Indians on October 31, 2012. 8 days later, Maine was designated for assignment to make room for the recently acquired Jeremy Jeffress.
