He co-founded and is managing partner of High Alpha, a venture studio that develops, launches and grows enterprise technology companies. In the latter part of 2000 Dorsey, Chris Baggott along with Peter McCormick co- founded ExactTarget, the leading provider of digital marketing automation and analytics software as well as services. ExactTarget has raised $161.5 million during its Initial public offering (IPO) of the New York Stock Exchange in 2012 before being acquired in 2013 by salesforce.com to the tune of $2.5 billion at the end of 2013. While with ExactTarget, Dorsey held the posts of chairman and CEO. Dorsey quit his position to become chief executive of Salesforce ExactTarget Marketing Cloud in May 2014.
In 2004 Dorsey was honored as a member of the Indiana Business Journal as one of their 40 under 40.
In 2011, Dorsey was named an American Business Awards Executive of the Year and Techpoint Trailblazer in Technology.
The ExactTarget Foundation was founded in 2011. After the Salesforce acquisition in 2013, the ExactTarget Foundation was reorganized under a new name and mission as Nextech with Dorsey as its chairman. Nextech’s mission is to connect educators, innovative nonprofits, and entrepreneurs to deliver programs that inspire and enable young people from all backgrounds to pursue careers in technology.

Dorsey, Baggott, and McCormick formed the co-founding team of ExactTarget in the latter part of 2000. in 2004, ExactTarget was able to raise $10.5 millions from Insight Venture Partners and grew to $31.2 million in revenue in 2006 before submitting a formal application for IPO in December 2007. Then, in May of 2009 ExactTarget pulled the IPO request and secured $70 million of cash through Battery Ventures, Scale Venture Partners as well as Greenspring Associates, followed by another $75 million later in the year under the direction of Technology Crossover Ventures.
Dorsey has also played a prominent role in the Indianapolis sports community, serving as a board member for Indiana Sports Corp since 2009 and being elected Chairman of the Indiana Sports Corp board of directors in 2013. Dorsey also served as the Chair for the Marketing and Communications Division for the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee.
