He was the winner of the 2011 Joe Shuster Prize within the Comics for Kids category for the first novel in the Three Thieves series, Tower of Treasure.
Chantler was nominated to win a nomination in the year 2005 for a Russ Manning Most Promising Newcomer Award for his graphic novel Scandalous which was which was written by J. Torres. Chantler was nominated in 2008 for the Eisner Award in 2008 for the Best Teen Book for Northwest Passage Annotated Collection, and in 2008 for Northwest Passage: Annotated Collection, and in 2011 for the best work based on reality for Two Generals, a graphic account about World War II based on his grandfather’s experiences. Northwest Passage also earned a 2008 Harvey Award nomination for Special Award for Outstanding Presentation and an 2008 Joe Shuster Nomination for the Cover Artwork by an artist from Canada. Chantler started his career as a commercial illustrator at an agency for corporate communications. He joined the company in 2000 and started working in the webcomics scene. Together with the writer J. Torres, he published an illustrated novel called Days Like This, and following more work in this vein, he began writing and creating graphic novel illustrations. In 2015 he was appointed Cartoonist-in-Residence at the University of Windsor.
Days Like This was one of the 23 titles that comprise the “On That Note: Music and Musicians” section of the American Library Association’s 2004 Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults list.
