Brison PC (born on May 10 1967) was an Canadian Former politician who hails who hails from Nova Scotia. Brison was the MP (MP) in the district of Kings-Hants until the federal election through July 2000. He then served from November 2000 until February 2019. Brison was first chosen in the constituency of an Progressive Conservative but crossed the threshold in order to become a member of the Liberal Party in 2003. He was Minister for Public Works and Government Services between 2004 and 2006 in the Paul Martin government. He was the President of the Treasury Board of Canada in Justin Trudeau’s government until January 2019.
On the 10th of December 2003, just 4 days following the time that Brison supported his party’s PCs joining with Canadian Alliance to form the new Conservative Party of Canada, Brison declared that he would be crossing the floor to become the Liberal MP. Brison stated that he was concerned about the apparent power of the previous members from the conservative Canadian Alliance in the new party. Brison was criticised for his move, however, particularly because he had a strong stance in support of the merger at the time it was first suggested. Some had also noted that as Finance Critic Brison was vocal when he criticized Paul Martin who was Finance Minister. Brison was criticised as an opportunist, changing parties and accepting the position of parliamentary secretary. Brison declared that his support for the merger was evidently sluggish in the last weeks prior to the vote. He said he’d keep his previous pledge to vote in favor of the plan however, he stated that the decision would be rethought when the results are released.
In Opposition, Brison has served as the Liberal Party’s Finance Critic. In 2005, he was named by the World Economic Forum (WEF) of Davos, Switzerland, as one of its “Young Global Leaders”.
On April 22, 2006, Brison entered the race for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. His Liberal leadership platform emphasised both environmentalism and economic reform calling for a “green” platform that called for personal and corporate tax cuts to prompt business growth and curb pollution. Brison won 4.0% of the vote on the first ballot with 192 delegates, leaving him in 6th place out of eight candidates. He dropped out and threw his support behind Bob Rae. When Bob Rae dropped out on the third ballot and released his delegates, Scott Brison opted to support the politically similar Michael Ignatieff. The final winner of the leadership convention was Stéphane Dion.
On the 13th of December 2003 Brison was appointed a parliamentary secretary for the Prime Minister, with a particular attention to Canada-U.S. Relations. He was also officially sworn into the Queen’s Privy council for Canada. In 2004, Brison won a second term, his first win as an Liberal. On the 20th of July, 2004, Brison was named to Cabinet as the Minister of Public Works in Martin’s post-election shake-up. By doing so Brison became Canada’s first cabinet minister who was openly gay.

The 2000 election was held in November, Clark was a candidate in the Calgary, Alberta riding. Brison came back with the PC candidate for Kings–Hants and was elected to the Parliament. He was elected in 2001. worked in the role of party’s Finance and Industry critic, and also as vice-chairman of the House of Commons Finance committee. Brison declared himself gay in 2002, stating that he’s “not a gay politician, but a politician who happens to be gay.” He was the fourth member of Parliament to come out as gay following Svend Robinson Real Menard, and Libby Davies. Additionally being the first MP openly gay to serve as an elected part of the Progressive Conservative Party.
Then, in July of 2000 Brison removed himself from his position to ensure it was possible that PC Chairman Joe Clark could enter the House of Commons. In the meantime, Brison was appointed co-chair of the Tories’ Election Policy Platform Committee and later became vice-president of investment banking for Yorkton Securities in Toronto.
In 2003, following Clark’s retirement, Brison ran for the leadership of the Progressive Conservatives on a platform of “new ideas”, that consisted of Employment Insurance reform, more private involvement in health care, integrated defence strategy with the US, and socially liberal policies. At the leadership convention, his campaign was dealt a crucial blow by John Herron who defected to the MacKay camp. Despite gaining votes on the second ballot, Brison was eliminated by three votes and threw his support to Jim Prentice. Prentice lost on the final ballot to Peter MacKay (who won with the support of David Orchard). He fought publicly with other members of his party, particularly Elsie Wayne, over their opposition to same-sex marriage.
