He pitched four innings, surrendering two hits, and striking out four, while allowing no earned runs for his first victory. He ended the season being 8-9 and an 4.61 ERA in 24 games 17 of which were starts.
In his next two seasons shoulder trouble would limit Bankhead to just 21 appearances. On December 20, 1991 he was granted free agency.

In the first month of his time as a member of the Mariners, Bankhead went 4-1 with an 2.94 ERA, but he suffered from tendinitis and finished his season in a pathetic 9-8 performance and a 5.42 ERA.
