Scott was a graduate of McCullough High School, located in The Woodlands and received his diploma in general studies from Texas Christian University. He played previously for MLB as a player for The Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Indians and also for the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hanshin Tigers. Atchison was the head of the bullpen for Cleveland Indians for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
He signed an minor league contract to his team the Boston Red Sox on December 7, 2007. However, he the team was dismissed and he signed an agreement for the National Baseball Board’s Hanshin Tigers on December 20. On July 15, 2012, the Red Sox placed him on the 15-day disabled list because of a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, retroactive to July 14. On August 16 he was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make roster space for newly acquired pitcher, Pedro Beato. Atchison returned to the active roster September 12.
On November 30, 2012, Atchison was non-tendered, and became a free agent.

Atchison was initially chosen to his team the Seattle Mariners in the 36th round of the 1994 amateur draft but he chose to attend Texas Christian University. At the age of 16, he was a in the collegiate summer league with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
He was selected again from Mariners Mariners during the 48th and 49th rounds of 1998’s draft for amateurs, and was signed by the Mariners in May of 1999. He played for five seasons with minor league affiliates affiliated to Mariners. Mariners before making his first appearance in the Majors on July 31st in 2004. He played the season of 2004 as well as 2005 split their time among the Mariners as well as the Mariners minor league affiliates. He played in 31 games in two seasons.
