Scott Alain Alexander (born July 10 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher who plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was previously a player for the MLB with The Kansas City Royals.
Although he described his experience at Pepperdine as an “great experience” he chose to go into Sonoma State University for his junior season to be closer to his family as well as his mother who was ill. While playing for the Seawolves in his first season, he had a record of just 3-6 with an 4.50 ERA in 13 starts with 70 strikeouts. His younger brother, Jason, signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels in July 2017.
In 2016, he pitched in 22 games for Omaha and 17 for the Royals. In the minors, he was 2–0 with a 3.00 ERA in 30 innings and in the majors he had a 3.32 ERA in 19 innings. He made seven more appearances in the minors in 2017 but spent most of the year with the Royals, where he was 5–4 with a 2.48 ERA in 69 innings over 58 games. He picked up his first MLB win on July 2nd when he pitched two scoreless innings against the Minnesota Twins and his first save on August 22 against the Colorado Rockies.
Alexander changed between three levels within his time in the Royals Farm system throughout 2013, playing five games played for the Lexington Legends of the South Atlantic League as well as 12 games with the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Carolina League and 24 for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Texas League. In all, he went 5-1 with an 3.00 ERA and appeared exclusively in the bullpen. He did not give up an inning-long homerun and also threw the second- highest number of innings pitched in minor leagues (75) without allowing a homerun. Alexander was a player in Little League Baseball and attended Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa, California, where Alexander earned the title of North Bay League player of the year in his senior year. He set school records for strikeouts over a year as well as a career. He also helped lead them to the league title in 2007. He was selected with Cincinnati Reds in the Cincinnati Reds in the 37th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft but didn’t sign and instead enrolled at Pepperdine University to play college baseball. He was selected for the West Coast Conference’s all-freshman team in 2008, when his record was 7-4 and an 4.95 ERA and struck out 106 batters. Alexander was then picked for his team, the Kansas City Royals in the sixth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft and was signed by the team the 11th of June, 2010, for the sum of $130,000 in signing bonuses. Alexander began his career that year in the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer Baseball League, where the team was 1-6 and an 5.73 ERA in 12 games (11 starts). He then missed the entire 2011 season due to a left shoulder surgery. He came back in 2012 to pitch the ten games (six start) with the Kane County Cougars of the Midwest League where he had an 2.55 ERA.
Alexander was called up to the majors for the first time on September 1, 2015 and he made his MLB debut the following day against the Detroit Tigers. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, retiring two batters on groundouts and then striking out Nicholas Castellanos to end the game. He pitched in six innings over four games for the Royals that season, allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
