Sarah McCarthy-Fry (born on February 4, 1955) is a British Labour Co-operative politician. She was a Member of the Parliament of Portsmouth North from the 2005 general election until the 2010 elections. She was the Exchequer Secretary of the Treasury during the final phase during the Labour government of Gordon Brown.

In May 2009, The Daily Telegraph revealed that McCarthy-Fry tried to claim expenses for the purchase of a PS100 set of straighteners for her hair, but the claim was rejected. The items that the taxpayer did pay for comprised PS333 in bedding, as well as an sewing box.

At the general election on 6 May 2010, McCarthy-Fry lost her seat to the Conservative candidate Penny Mordaunt. Along with Anne Snelgrove, she co- ordinated Ed Balls’ campaign in the Labour party leadership election which followed.

The year 2006 was the time that McCarthy-Fry became PPS for John Healey, the Financial Secretary of the Treasury. In the Prime Gordon Brown’s cabinet shake-up in 2007, she was promoted to PPS for Geoff Hoon, the Chief Whip. On the 5th of October, in 2008, she received a elevated to the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of States within the Department for Children, Schools and Families to replace Lord Adonis who was transferred away from Education to Transport. It was an unpopular change which sparked much speculation in the media following Adonis was believed as a major education reformer, and it was thought that the government had no longer considered education as a top priority. McCarthy-Fry was transferred into in the Department for Communities and Local Government during the reshuffle of June 2009.
