It was during this fight that he nearly died – his opponent was on him for 10 minutes and he nearly suffocated. He was named brand ambassador for the Wrestling Federation of India for 2014.

Sangram and actress Payal Rohatgi got engaged on 27 February 2014 at a ceremony in Payal’s hometown Ahmedabad. He is also a registered organ donor.
