Grossman is the chairman and Chief Executive Officer of QFS Asset Management, an affiliate of QFS Asset Management, which he established in 1988. QFS Asset Management shut down its only remaining hedge fund in January 2014.

Grossman’s initial contributions to economic research were given an official acknowledgment in the form of the John Bates Clark Medal by the American Economic Association at its annual meeting in December of 1987. In the same year, the Q-Group gave him the first prize in the Roger F. Murray Prize competition for his paper “An Analysis of the Implications for Stock and Future Price Volatility of Program Trading and Dynamic Hedging Strategies.” The Editorial Board of the Financial Analysts Journal presented him with the award in 1988. Graham and Dodd Scroll for “Program Trading and Market Volatility: A Report on Interday Relationships.” Grossman was awarded an award from the Mathematical Finance 1993 Best Paper Award for his paper “Optimal Investment Strategies for Controlling Drawdowns.” Grossman was awarded the award in 1996. Leo Melamed Prize from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business for exceptional scholarship given by an instructor. in 2002 Grossman got recognized by his university, the University of Chicago with its Professional Achievement Citation. In the past Grossman was presented with the 2009 CME Group MSRI Prize in innovative Quantitative Applications.

Grossman created an affiliate with QFS Asset Management, L.P. in the year 1988. The company is located within Greenwich, Connecticut, and is an alternative investment management company that utilizes financial investment models that are based on the research of Grossman’s work in finance and economics. The company specializes in international macro – and foreign exchange strategies for investment.

Sanford Grossman earned his A.B. in 1973, then his A.M. in 1974 and Ph.D. in 1975, all in economics, all from the University of Chicago. After receiving his doctorate, he been a professor in 1973 at Stanford University, the University of Chicago, Princeton University (as the John L.
