Sanchita Islam (Bengali: snycitaa islaam ; born on April 28, 1973) is an English artist writer, painter, and film maker who is of Bangladeshi origin. Since 1999, the artist formed Pigment Explosion, which has developed into various projects, including painting, film writing and photography.

in 1998 Islam took part in the group exhibition 000 at the Whitechapel Art Gallery. Then, in a display of her paintings and drawings the gallery, she was told that she had to work in the gallery all day. Islam determined to open her art and show it to the general public.

She was an artist in residence at the Whitechapel Art Gallery between 2003 and 2004, she was artist in residence at the Open Gallery from 2004 to 2008, and also worked as an artist in residence at TVF Media from 2004 to 2009. She was also artist in resident at Artscape and Shoreditch House and her art features in various venues around London such as Sketch, Mark Hix’s restaurant and she was commissioned to do over one hundred paintings for Clifton Hotel Group in Bristol.

In 2009, at the age of 36, she had her first experience of psychosis.

As of September, 1996 Islam completed her studies at in September 1996 from the London School of Economics, University of London with a BSc in International History and a MSc in Comparative Politics. Then, in February of 1998 she finished an MA in Screenwriting and Directing which was sponsored by Channel 4 at the Northern Media School at Sheffield Hallam University. She then began a the BA at Fine Art Practice and Theory of Visual Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design and dropped out during the middle of her 2nd year.

From 1977 until 1984 Islam was a student at Amberleigh Preparatory School. From 1984 until 1991, she was a student at Chorlton Convent High School for Girls. In June of 1991 she took the A levels for Art, English Literature, History at Loreto College in Manchester. Then, in June of 1992 she earned an Art foundation certificate in Manchester Metropolitan University.
