Sanchir Tungalag is one of the most popular and richest Basketball Player who was born on April 8, 1989 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Sanchir started the sport of basketball when he was a young age, and was a student at Bayangol District’s high school #40. His first basketball coach was the physical education teacher of the school Mendsaikhan. Sanchir started to be a coach in Mendsaikhan’s basketball classes and became enthralled by the game. When he was in 8th grade Sanchir was accepted into the basketball team of his school and was a winner at numerous national and local tournaments.
In his first campaign with Tavan Tolgoi Trans Geiers, Sanchir, who at the time was only 18 years old at the time, barely played in any game and did not contribute much to the team’s achievement. Geiers also made its league debut , and progressed to the Finals, only to lose to final Champion Kharaagiin Khartsaguud. Though he was dissatisfied with his performance Sanchir was determined to train more than the rest of the team during that summer, and erased his doubts about his abilities. His efforts paid off as coach Tseverbal appointed Sanchir as an active player for the Geiers during the the 2008-09 season. It was a breakout year for Sanchir, as he topped his team in rebounding and scoring. Even though his team did not achieve a title, Sanchir was named the Most Remarkable Player of the Season.
Sanchir has also represented the Mongolian national team in various international basketball competitions since 2009. The most recent in the 2014 Asian Games where he averaged 16.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game to lead the Mongolians to an 8th-place finish, its best finish ever in the tournament.
In 2010, Sanchir accepted the offer to play for the Bayanzurkh Bulls, a newly established team of the MNBA. In the 2011 MBA All-Star Game, Sanchir led all in scoring and his team to a win, and was named the game’s MVP. His popularity was growing fast. In 2011-2012 season, Sanchir began playing for the fan- favorite SBL Khasiin Khuleguud, which won the National Title three times before. Khuleguud advanced all the way to the Finals with Sanchir’s scoring dominance and faced the Bulls, Sanchir’s former team in the Finals. Unfortunately, they lost to the Bulls 4-2.
The year 2007 was the time that Sanchir got an the opportunity to join Otgontenger University, which had an impressive basketball team. Sanchir accepted the invitation and began training for Otgontenger. At the same time Sanchir started his semi-pro journey with MBA’s Tavan Tolgoi Trans Geiers under the direction of legendary Mongolian player Ts. Tseverbal. Tseverbal recognized Sanchir’s potential when he was playing against his team from university in National Championship. When Sanchir’s sophomore year began his coach Tseverbal invited Sanchir to play for his team, the Institute of Trade Industry Geiers and the young man agreed. The first season he played playing for the Geiers they were able to win the title of national college league champion in 2008, and he was awarded MVP. Sanchir was also the leader of several tournaments for scoring in college and also the Geiers were a formidable power in basketball at the college level.

In the quarterfinal, Mongolia was pitted with China, Iran and Japan. In their sixth game in just five days, the exhausted and unprepared Blue Wolves had no chance against China which lost with 41-points. Sanchir was at his best, scoring 15 points and four rebound. In the game against Iran Coach Bayartsogt Odonbaatar rested Sanchir and Bilguun. When it came to Japan, Mongolia again lacked the energy to win with 26-point margins. Sanchir scored 26 points out of points, and also grabbed six rebound. In the classification Round, Mongolia first faced against Qatar losing by only 9 points. The exhausted Sanchir played the worst game of the tournament and finished with only 3 points. For 7th place and the finale game Mongolia took on World Cup quality opponent Philippines. While leading the first quarter 21-18 Mongolia did not manage to win the match and fell. Sanchir scored 15 points while Bilguun was the top scorer with 18 points.
Tungalagiin Sanchir (Mongolian: Tungalagiin Sanchir , born on April 8th 1989) is a Mongolian professional basketball player. He played for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of the Philippine Basketball Association. He is considered one of the top Mongolian basketball players today and is an original Mongolian professional player of basketball to be a part of an international league within the past 20 years. Prior to his time with Ginebra Sanchir, he played for the Mon-Altius Madimos Falcons of the Mongolian National Basketball Association, the most prestigious Basketball league of Mongolia.
After winning the Most Improved Player Award in 2009, Sanchir’s success was noticed by a South Korean coach Park Sun Ghen, who was in charge of the Mongolian national team at the time and invited him to try out for the national team. Eventually he made the team and began his international career by playing in the 2009 East Asian Championship Hong Kong representing Mongolia. Since then, he has represented Mongolia in many international tournaments such as East Asian and Asian Games, Asian Beach Games, Universiade and other competitions.

In April 1, 2015, it was announced that Sanchir will be Barangay Ginebra’s Asian reinforcement for the 2015 Governors’ Cup. In Barangay Ginebra’s game against Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters, Sanchir was controversially benched and did not play throughout the game, but earned sympathy and respect from fans.
