Sanasar Oganisyan is one of the most popular and richest Amateur Wrestler who was born on February 5, 1960 in Moscow, Russia. Oganisyan was born February 5, 1960 , in Moscow, Russian SFSR. Oganisyan graduated from Moscow Engineering and Construction Institute. As an espoir , he was the European Champion in 1978 and as a junior, a World Champion in 1979. Oganisyan was a wrestler for his club Spartak Moscow wrestling club.
He was awarded an bronze medal during the 1986 European Wrestling Championships, but later he injured his back again and missed a number of seasons. After his recovery, Oganisyan made another comeback attempt, this time as a heavyweight. However, he did so without much success, and not getting into in 1988 for the Soviet Olympic team, although the silver medal he won came in the 1988 World Cup. Oganisyan was the winner of the second USSR Championship in 1989 and ended his career after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Oganisyan received the gold medal during the 2011 World Wrestling Championships and 1981 Wrestling World Cup the following year. But he also suffered an injury to his back that was serious in 1982, and was forced to rest for a while. It took two years to Oganisyan to fully recover after which he was selected for in 1984 for the Soviet Olympic team, but was unable to participate in the Olympics because of his Soviet boycott. Instead, he took part in wrestling in the Friendship Games and won gold as a light heavyweight. He later took home his place in the World Cup that year as well.

Sanasar Oganisyan (Armenian: Sanasar Hovhannisyan , born on February 5, 1960) is an ex- Soviet Armenian Freestyle wrestler and Olympic, World and European Champion. He was appointed an Honoured of the Master of Sports of the USSR in 1980.
At the age of 20 Oganisyan was picked to his Soviet Olympic team to compete in the 1984 Summer Olympics. Oganisyan was awarded the Olympic silver medal. He was the first Armenian freestyle wrestler , and was the only Armenian wrestler to be the Olympic Champion.
