Sanal Kumar Sasidharan is one of the most popular and richest Director who was born on April 8, 1977 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Sanal Kumar Sasidharan was a native of Perumkadavila village in Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala in the 8th of April, 1977. He graduated in Zoology from VTM NSS College Dhanuvachapuram,Trivandrum and law, then started his job as a lawyer. He was a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) which was a student-run organization affiliated by the Bharatiya Janata Party, and was the director of ABVP during his time in the Law College. He left ABVP because of political differences and was a vocal opponent of the ruling BJP Central government. He established an organization for film, Kazhcha Chalachithra Vedi with his co-workers, to make independent films using crowd funding. He has directed three short films as well as one feature film using crowd funding. He was recognized as the Best Director at the Kerala State Film Awards 2014. He was awarded the internationally renowned Tiger Award in the International Film Festival Rotterdam for his film Sexy Durga.

The film he directed in 2017 Sexy Durga, later re-named as S Durga after a debate over the title and a ban from the Central Board of Film Certification in India The film has been awarded the Hivos Tiger Award in International Film Festival Rotterdam 2017. Sexy Durga is the first ever Indian film to win the coveted award. The film was cinematographed and directed by Prathap Joseph, also bagged another eight international awards such as an Award for Professional Achievement in the Tarkovsky Film Festival in Russia for its outstanding cinematography. Also, and the Golden Apricot Award in the International Feature Competition category in Yerevan International Film Festival 2017 the Best International Feature Narrative in Guanajuato International Film Festival, Mexico Expresion en Corto International Film Festival 2017 the best International Feature award Reflet d’Or at the Geneva International Film Festival, the Young Jury award, and a special mention by the official Jury at the 53rd Pesaro Film Festival in Italy, Jury Mention for Direction and Original Music Track in Cinema Jove – International Film Festival of Valencia, Spain and a A special Jury acknowledgement in the 19th Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI). The in-progress project of the film also been awarded the NFDC Film Bazar DI Award 2016. DI Award for 2016. The film was subject to an enormous controversy regarding its title, and was featured in the media due to the fact that an announcement that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (India) refused permission to show the film at the International Film Festival of India after the jury’s choice.

His latest feature film project Ah’r (Kayattam), announced in 2019 has been noted for the presence of acclaimed Malayalam actress Manju Warrier as protagonist and a co-producer.

His upcoming feature film Chola is set to premiere at the 76th Venice International Film Festival in the Orizzonti Competition section. The principal actor, Nimisha Sajayan has received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress as well as actor. His film career began in 2000, working as an art director in film Mankolangal.
