Samuel Seo was born Seo Dong-hyeon, on May 3, 1991 at Seoul, South Korea. Seo began learning piano at the age of three and five. The father of his was working at his employer, Japanese corporation Hitachi during the period was moved to Tokyo which resulted in Seo along with his parents being relocated into Japan around the age of 5. Seo began school there, and was able to spend the next 2 to 3 years within Japan and began learning Japanese. Through the rest of his youth and adolescence, he stayed throughout both the United States and Canada. He was able to learn English during the latter, between visiting relatives and attending an institution for community service. He was a student at high school in Canada in which he was able to become an attorney.

Seo released his follow-up album, Ego Expand (100 100 percent) in the month of May that year. It received nominations for the Best R&B & Soul Album, as well as the Best R&B & Soul Song for the lead single “B L U E”.

Seo released a collaboration single with former 4Minute member Jeon Ji-yoon in March 2017. On June 8, he released the collaborative project extended play Elbow with Qim Isle.

Seo was able to complete his time in military in the year 2013. He was a part of both the New Block Babyz and Guereallaz collectives, he dropped his first extended play Welcome to My Zone in October of the same year. Songs like “Vibe” and “Ocean of You” followed in later months. In the midst of a year half gap, Seo released “New Dress Girl” on the 14th of September 15th, 2015, as the prelude of his debut album. He contributed to songwriting as well as the composition and arrangement for the album and playing all instruments, with only bass. I mean, not sacred, but I hope people hear my words seriously.” Despite his name Seo, he is considered to be an unbeliever. The music he creates is a blend of electronic, ambient and contemporary songs, Seo released his first single “Raindrop” in 2010. In the next year, he dropped his debut mixtape Now or Never before being required to be conscripted within South Korea and enlisting in military service.

Seo released the digital single “Kafka” on February 17, 2016. Influenced by Franz Kafka’s novel The Metamorphosis, the song is a collaboration with rapper Verbal Jint. He released his second studio album Ego Expand (100%), along with its lead single “B L U E” on May 27. After holding a showcase for the album, he embarked on his first series of concert tours in Asia. On October 28, he released the post-album single “Float” featuring C Jamm. Seo was nominated for Best R&B & Soul Album and Song, respectively, for the 14th Korean Music Awards for Ego Expand (100%) and “B L U E”.
