Salif Keita is one of the most popular and richest World Music Singer who was born on August 25, 1949 in Djoliba, Mali. Famous for his 2009 album La Difference, which documents the struggles faced by people born with albinism, he is also known for numerous other acclaimed Afro-pop albums, including Ko-Yan (1989); Amen (1991); Folon (1995); and Moffou (2002).
He collaborated with Lebanese jazz trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf on a La Difference album track titled “Samigna.”
A native of Djoliba, Mali, and a descendant of first Emperor of Mali Sundiata Keita, Salif Keita was disowned by his family at a young age as a result of his albinism. He later fathered a blind daughter, Nantenin Keita, who competed in the 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Games, winning silver and bronze medals in track & field events.
