Said Nafa Biography

Said Nafa is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on April 1, 1953 in Beit Jann, Northern District, Israel. Born to a family belonging to the Druze religion located in Beit Jann in 1953, Nafa was a member of his party Communist Party Maki at age 14. He pursued law school in Tel Aviv University, graduating in 1983. In 1989 the year he was elected to the municipal council, serving as the member of Maki and served as deputy mayor and mayor during the 1990s.

Another group formed by Nafa in 2003 aims to facilitate connections among Druze leadership in Israel and other parts of the Arab world, with a focus on Syria as well as Lebanon.

In January 2010 a Knesset committee stripped Nafa of his parliamentary immunity from prosecution, in order to enable charges brought in relation to a visit to Syria to proceed. In 2007 Nafa had organised a pilgrimage to Syria for 280 people; visits to Syria are banned. During that visit, it is also alleged that he met with members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and attempted to meet with Hamas representatives – charges he denies.

In December 2011, Nafa was indicted for illegally entering an enemy state and contacting a foreign agent.

He also introduced in 2001 the “Pact of Free Druze” An initiative that to end the compulsory enlistment of Druze to the Israeli army and to promote the Druze community’s recognition in the Palestinian Arab population in Israel as well as the Palestinian population in general. Nafa himself has been a conscientious objectionor who was convicted several times for refusing to perform his army duty. Four of his sons also been convicted of refusing to join the army.

Said Nafa (Arabic: syd nuf , Hebrew: syd npA(also Said Naffaa, born 1 April 1953) is an Israeli Arab politician and lawyer. An Druze national of Israel and a Knesset member, he was an official in the Knesset for Balad between 2007 and 2013.

Nafa quit Nafa left the Maki Party in 1997 and was a member of his own party, the Arab Balad party in Balad in 1999, as did the majority of people from the Druze community in Israel.

Prior to the 2006 elections Nafa was placed fourth on the Balad list. Although Balad won only three seats in the election, he entered the Knesset on 24 April 2007 as a replacement for party leader Azmi Bishara, who had resigned. He was placed second on the party’s list for the 2009 elections, and retained his seat as the party won three mandates.
