He played in the NCAA basketball tournament with the West Virginia Mountaineers. He was born in Bamako He emigrated into in the United States to play at Kennedy Catholic High School starting during his junior year. When he was an undergraduate in West Virginia, he was named to the third team of All-Big 12 and made the conference All-Defensive Team.
After being undrafted, Konate signed with the Toronto Raptors of the National Basketball Association on the 23rd of July on the 23rd of July, 2019. Konate was released, and later added to their roster NBA G League affiliate, the Raptors 905. Konate injured his metatarsal during the preseason, but returned in January 2020.
In his time as a player at the college level, Konate established himself as an experienced shot-blocker. He averaged 3.2 blocks per match during his sophomore season, which was third in the country with respect to Division I. Additionally, he scored 10.8 scores and 7.6 rebound per game. Konate was a bit interested in his place in the 2018 NBA Draft, but pulled out of the draft and returned home to West Virginia. In his junior year, Konate broke the WVU record in blocked shots by 191. Konate spent the majority of the season out of action because of a knee injury. Following the 2018-2019 season, Konate declared for the 2019 NBA draft, putting off his senior season.
