David Matterne was his principal trombonist at the Spokane Symphony. As a teenager, he performed with Spokane Youth Symphony as well as the Whitworth Jazz Ensemble and Spokane Jazz Orchestra. Keberle was the valedictorian in his class and graduated from Mead High School, 1998.
After touring with Sufjan Stevens internationally, Keberle founded Catharsis in 2012. It was a pianoless acoustic band with Mike Rodriguez on trumpet and Jorge Roeder, on bass, and Eric Doob, on drums. Their first album, Music Is Emotion was released by Alternate Side in 2013. According to the Los Angeles Times, the album is a “potent mixture of cinematic sweeps and lush, ear- grabbing melodyes.” All About Jazz said that Keberle had become a highly- respected trombonist in just over ten years. He uses his vast technique to communicate with people rather than playing at them. Keberle is a versatile company that works with everyone from Latin legend Ivan Lins to Maria Schneider, pop/R&B star Alicia Keys. But his raison d’etre doesn’t revolve around diversification. He’s all about touching souls through sound means.
Keberle played professionally while a student; he supported himself mainly as a pianist during his first four years in New York. Following his graduation, he performed with the David Berger Jazz Orchestra, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis, among others. His compositions “Cylindrically” and “Something Speaking” were performed by the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra, and “Slants”, a commissioned piece, was performed by the Spokane Jazz Orchestra. Based in Brooklyn, he freelanced as a recording and performing musician in multiple genres — in addition to traditional and avant-garde jazz, Keberle played with Latin, R&B, and rock artists. He was an orchestra member for several Broadway productions, performed in ensembles for television shows, and served as the music director at St. James Catholic Church.
Since 2004, Keberle has been the director of the Hunter College jazz program. Keberle has also led trombone improvisation clinics at Berklee College of Music and the Brubeck institute, Cornish College of the Arts and Dartmouth College. As part of the American Composer Orchestra’s educational outreach program he has conducted clinics in New York City’s public schools. He has also been a guest conductor for jazz bands from all over the region. Since 1999, Keberle has been teaching privately.
