Foster was a member of the Allman Brothers Band during their 2012 Beacon Theatre run. Foster sang on four songs, including a cover of “The Weight”, where she exchanged verses with Susan Tedeschi. She has toured with Warren Haynes as well as the Blind Boys of Alabama. She was featured on House of Blues’ radio show, The BluesMobile in February 2013. In November 2012, she also appeared in Austin Live: Tick Tock. This short video was produced by the City of Austin. In January 2013, she performed at the Texas State Society of Washington D.C.’s Presidential Inauguration Ball.

Foster continues to tour extensively all over the world. As of 2016, her shows have spanned across the U.S., Italy, Germany, Spain, and Cuba.

She announced details for a Spring 2017 album during an in-depth career retrospective interview with The Pods & Sods Network in November 2016. That album, titled Joy Comes Back, was released on March 24, 2017, via Blue Corn Records, and included collaborations with several artists, including Derek Trucks of the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Following Hurricane Harvey which damaged many coastal cities in Foster’s home state of Texas, she was invited to participate in a benefit concert including Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, and James Taylor. Another significant moment was Foster’s performance at Carnegie Hall in February 2018. Foster was also awarded one of US Artists’ fellowship awards, which recognized her contributions to her field, accompanied by an unrestricted $50,000 award.

Blue Corn released Crossover, Runaway Soul, and Stages in 1999. In 2004, Stages featured a number of live tracks. Heal Yourself was Foster’s next album in 2006. Heal Yourself was followed in 2006 by The Phenomenal Rustie Foster (2008), which was produced and recorded by Papa Mali. Blue Corn’s 2009 release, The Truth According To Ruthie Foster was produced by Grammy-winning producer Chris Goldsmith. It was recorded at Ardent Studios Memphis. The Truth According To Ruthie Foster was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Contemporary Blues Album. In 2011, Live At Antone’s, a second album featuring Foster’s live performances was released (CD and DVD). Blue Corn’s studio album, Let It Burn, was released in 2012. It featured special guests The Blind Boys of Alabama and William Bell. It was also produced by John Chelew, a Grammy Award winner. Foster was nominated for a second Grammy for Let It Burn, which earned her a Best Blues Album nomination. It also served as the vehicle for many Blues Music Awards that Foster won. Blue Corn Music released Joy Comes Back in 2017.

Foster joined the Navy in an effort to travel and get a better understanding of the world. She soon sang in the Navy’s Pride naval band, which performed pop and funk songs at recruiting drives in the southeast United States. Foster returned from her tour of duty and moved to New York City, where she was a regular performer in various folk venues. Atlantic Records heard Foster’s talents and offered her a recording contract. However, Foster didn’t want to pursue a pop career.
