Ruth Smeeth is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on June 29, 1979 in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. Smeeth was a Scottish citizen. Her mother hails from east London and her father is a Scottish trade unionist. Her maternal family is Jewish and she arrived in London in the 1890s to escape Russian pogroms. After her parents divorced at three years old, Smeeth had never spoken to her father. Smeeth was educated at Bristol’s Jewish School and later taught there. Her mother was later the deputy general secretary for Amicus. She traveled extensively throughout the UK in her early years due to her mother’s work.

Smeeth was the wife of Michael Smeeth (a business executive). She calls herself ‘culturally Jewish’. She has been a Hope not Hate board member since 2015.

In June 2016, at the launch of the Chakrabarti Report, Marc Wadsworth, a Labour Party activist, described Smeeth as working “hand-in-hand” with Kate McCann of The Daily Telegraph, after Smeeth passed her his press release. Smeeth said that Wadsworth was using “traditional antisemitic slurs to attack me for being part of a ‘media conspiracy'” and criticised a lack of response from Corbyn or his office, calling on him to resign. Wadsworth said he was unaware Smeeth was Jewish and that “I’ve never been called anti-semitic in my life…The Jewish people have an ally in me.” Smeeth said that she received 25,000 pieces of abuse during July and August, including 20,000 in the 12-hour period immediately following the incident, and the police strengthened her security after she received a death threat. In April 2018, Smeeth was accompanied by around 40 Labour MPs and peers to a Labour hearing into Wadsworth’s conduct. Wadsworth was expelled for bringing the Party into disrepute.

Smeeth was elected as the Labour Party candidate in Burton. She finished 6,304 votes behind Andrew Griffiths, Conservative Party. After Joan Walley’s retirement, Smeeth was selected from an all-women list to become the Labour Party candidate in Stoke-on-Trent North. She was elected at the 2015 general elections.

Ruth Lauren Smeeth, nee Anderson, was born 29 June 1979. She is a British Labour Party politician and Member of Parliament (MP), for Stoke-on-Trent North between 2015 and 2019.

Smeeth received a degree from the University of Birmingham with a major in Politics and International Relations in 2000. From January 2004 to September 2005, she was a Sodexo public relations officer. In November 2005, she was appointed director of public affairs and campaigns for the Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre. Later, she worked as a PR specialist for Nestle. She was the deputy director of Hope not Hate, an anti-racist organization, from 2010 to 2015. She was also employed by the Community Security Trust, and worked for the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
