Ruth Lawrence is one of the most popular and richest Mathematician who was born on August 2, 1971 in Brighton, England, United Kingdom. Ruth Elke Lawrence Neimark (Hebrew: rvt Alkh lvrns nAymrk – born 2 August 1971 in Jerusalem) is a British-Israeli mathematician. She is an associate professor of mathematics at Einstein Institute of Mathematics, Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a researcher on knot theory and algebraic Topology. She is most well-known for being a mathematics prodigy as a child.

Lawrence’s 1990 paper “Homological representations the Hecke algebra”, in Communications in Mathematical Physics introduced, among others, novel linear representations for the braid group, also known as Lawrence-Krammer representations. Stephen Bigelow and Daan Krammer established the reliability of Lawrence’s representation in papers published in 2001 and 2000. This is why the expression “braid group are linear” was used.

In 1998, Lawrence married Ariyeh Neimark, a mathematician at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and adopted the name Ruth Lawrence-Neimark. The following year, she moved to Israel with him and took up the post of associate professor of mathematics at the Einstein Institute of Mathematics, a part of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

At the age of nine, Lawrence gained an O-level in mathematics, setting a new age record (later surpassed in 2001 when Arran Fernandez successfully sat GCSE mathematics aged five). Also at the age of nine she achieved a Grade A at A-level pure mathematics.

Lawrence completed her first degree in physics in 1986, followed by a bachelor’s in physics and then a doctoral degree (DPhil) in mathematics at Oxford in June 1989 at the age of 17. Her doctoral thesis title and advisor was Sir Michael Atiyah.
