Rusty Zinn, born April 3, 1970 in Long Beach (California), is an American singer- songwriter and guitarist who plays electric blues and reggae. Between 1996 and 2009 Zinn released six albums on Black Top Records, Alligator Records, Bad Daddy Records, and 9 Above Records. He has collaborated with Mark Hummel and Kim Wilson, Larry Taylor, Sly Dunbar, and Larry Taylor.

Zinn’s 2009 album Manifestation was released in Jamaica. It featured contributions by Sly Dunbar and Robbie Lynn as well as Boris Gardiner, Scully Simms, and Scully Lynn.

Zinn’s solo debut album Sitin’ and Waitin’ was released on Black Top Records in 1996. Wilson acted as both record producer and accompanist. Zinn was nominated for the Blues Music Award as ‘Best New Blues Artist’. Zinn published Confessin in 1999 and The Chill (2000) with Elvin Bishop playing slide guitar. Zinfidelity, Vol. 2 were Zinn’s most recent issues. 1 (2005), and Reggaeblue (2006). Blues, Reggae, and Soul stylings were fused in the latter.

Zinn was born in Northern California and was exposed to music through his brother and mother’s records. Zinn was inspired by guitarists like Robert Lockwood, Jr., Eddie Taylor, or Jimmy Rogers and bought blues records. Zinn, who had been playing the drums since childhood, bought his first guitar when he was seventeen years old. He then saw Luther Tucker in concert with Rogers. Tucker invited Zinn onto the stage and gave him some tips on playing guitar within twelve months. Zinn had been playing in many Bay Area bands by the 1980s and had supported Rogers as well as Snooky Perry.

He spent a spell with Mark Hummel’s backing group, The Blues Survivors. Kim Wilson met him at the 1992 San Francisco Blues Festival. Zinn, along with Larry Taylor (ex-Canned Heat bassist), joined Wilson’s band and was a part of Wilson’s 1993 album Tigerman. He also toured and was a part of Wilson’s 1994 album, That’s Life.
