Rusty Greer is one of the most popular and richest Baseball Player who was born on January 21, 1969 in Fort Rucker, Alabama, United States. Thurman Clyde Greer III, born January 21, 1969, is a former Major League Baseball pitcher for the Texas Rangers. Most recently, he was the Assistant Head Coach at Texas Wesleyan University under his former teammate Mike Jeffcoat.

Greer was.111 (4-for-36) in the 1996, 1998, and 1999 American League Division Series. In his career, he played all three outfield positions as well as first base. His fielding percentage was.980 in left field, and.970 in right field. He also flied at first base a whopping.960.

The 1997 season also proved successful for Greer, as he finished seventh in the AL with a .321 batting average, played in a career-high 157 games, and he hit a career-high 26 home runs. In 1998, he had a career-high 108 RBI and a .306 batting average. The Rangers honored him for his contributions by granting him a new contract that paid him $3.3 million in 1999, up from $1.025 million the previous season. In 1999, he batted an even .300 with 20 home runs, 101 RBI, and a career-high 96 walks (to go with 67 strikeouts). In the 2000 season, he was limited to 105 games due to injuries and posted a batting average of .297, with eight home runs.

In 2001, Greer was limited to 62 games because of injuries, but he still hit seven home runs. Still a fan favorite, he was honored with a three-year, $21 million contract before the 2002 season. However, due to injuries he would only play 51 games with the Rangers in 2002.

He slugged.345 at Butte with an OPS 1.032. This earned him a promotion the next season to the Class A Florida State League. He was a 1991 graduate of the Texas League’s Class AA Tulsa Drillers. He remained with Tulsa for most of 1992 and 1993 before being called up to the Oklahoma City 89ers for eight more games. He was also a member of the 89ers’ 1994 season, and he slugged.315 in 31 games. This earned him a call-up by the Rangers. Rusty can currently be heard on B.A.D. as a weekly host. radio (The Bob and Dan Show), which airs from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on 1310/96.7 KTCK “The Ticket” Dallas, Tx. Talking about Texas Rangers baseball.

Greer’s success at Oklahoma continued when he was called up by Texas. He batted.314 and had ten home runs over 80 games. This made him the second Ranger to achieve this feat. (Ruben Sierra was first to do so on June 1, 1986 in Kansas City). He also played a significant role in the history of baseball against the Anaheim Angels, July 28, 1994 when he caught Rex Hudler’s flyball and made a diving catch to preserve Kenny Rogers’ perfect game. He made many more such catches throughout his major-league career. Greer also caught Gary DiSarcina’s fly ball in the game’s final out.

Greer was raised in Albertville, Alabama and went on to play college baseball at the University of Montevallo. Prior to the senior-year all star game, Montevallo was the only college that was interested in Greer. However, he decided to stay at Montevallo because they originally offered him a scholarship. Greer worked as a resident assistant in Napier Hall while at Montevallo. He was their tenth-round selection (279th overall) during the 1990 amateur draft. The rest of his season was spent playing for the Rangers’ rookie-level minor-league club in Butte. The Rangers would be his home for the next 15 years of his professional career, an accomplishment that was rare among professional ballplayers due to free agency.

Greer cooled off slightly in his second season, batting .271. However, in 1996, he had one of the best seasons of his career, batting .332 (fifth in the American League) and having his first of three 100-RBI seasons.
