A professional Brazilian footballer, Robson de Souza plays for the Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir.
Robinho’s mother, Robinho, was kidnapped by gunpoint in November 2004. The next month, she was freed without any harm.
Robinho scored nine goals in 12 league games, and his value continued to increase as his talent became more and more apparent to the powers of European football. Santos began to realize it would become increasingly difficult to hold on to their star player. In July 2005, Spanish giants Real Madrid signed Robinho by agreeing to pay a fee equal to 60% of the buyout clause in his contract belonging to Santos (€24 million).
Robinho was named in Brazil’s squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. During the tournament, Robinho was mainly used as a substitute, with the established forwards Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano and Kaká starting in attack. However, Robinho was named in the starting line-up for Brazil’s third group match; a 4–1 defeat of Japan. He made a third substitute appearance of the tournament in Brazil’s 1–0 quarter-final defeat by France.
Robinho won his first cap for Brazil at the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup match, which Brazil lost to Mexico 1-0 on 13 July. Brazil sent their under-23 team to the CONCACAF Gold Cup matches, which FIFA considers full international matches. He was part the Brazil team for the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup which Brazil won. Robinho was a partner in attack for Adriano and scored against Japan and Greece in group matches.

Robinho, then 15 years old, was chosen by Brazil legend Pele to be his heir apparent. In 2002, he led Santos FC to their first Campeonato Brasileiro title, since Pele played for the team. He has since won two titles with Santos FC and two with Real Madrid. In his first season in Milan, he won the Italian Serie A title. Robinho won the Copa America title with Brazil, as well as two FIFA Confederations Cups. He also played in two FIFA World Cups.
Robinho was born in Sao Vicente (Sao Paulo State). Robinho was a keen player of futsal, which helped him develop his speed and dribbling skills. At the age of 18, he signed his first professional contract in 2002 with Santos FC. In his debut season, he made 24 appearances and scored one goal to help Santos win the 2002 Campeonato Brasileiro. His form suffered in the 2005 season, however, after his mother, Marina da Silva Souza, was kidnapped by gunmen at her Praia Grande home on 6 November; she was released unharmed six weeks later after a ransom was paid.

Robinho was Real Madrid’s third-highest scorer during his Madrid years, behind strikers Raúl and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
