Tariko, based on his success, wanted to create a Russian consumer brand that would “embody Russia’s vibrant spirit.” Tariko was reported to have wondered why Russia, the country that gave birth to vodka and has the largest vodka market in the world, didn’t have a premium vodka brand made domestically. Tariko introduced Russian Standard Vodka Original in 1998 through his Russian Standard Company. This was the first Russian premium vodka. It was a huge success and became the number one brand in Russia.

In Forbes magazine’s “World’s Richest People” ranking of 2009, Tariko was listed at number 647 with an estimated wealth of $1.1 billion.
