Rosy Senanayake is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on January 5, 1958 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Bernadine Rose Senatorayake, JP (known as Rosy Sénayake; born 5th January 1958), is a Sri Lankan politician and former beauty queen, who is also an activist. She is currently the Mayoress for Colombo and was previously the Spokesperson of the Prime Minister and the Deputy Head, Prime Minister’s Office Ranil Wickramasinghe. She is active in opposition politics and has been an activist on many issues.

She is a prominent opposition activist and the Chief Organiser of the Colombo West Elections of the United National Party. In 2009, she was elected to the Western Provincial Council. She topped the Colombo District preferential votes list with 80,884 votes. She was elected Leader of the Opposition in 2009 and then to the Parliament in 2010. In 2010, she secured the fourth spot on the UNP list, with 66 357 preferences. She has been a prominent voice in Parliament on a variety of issues, including violence against women and children, chauvinism, and socio-cultural, socio-economic and economic problems that affect Sri Lanka.

Witnesses were appeared before Presidential Commission of Inquiry that Rosy Senanayake had leaked some secret information of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) in Parliament to the Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL). Nuwan Salgado, the Chief Dealer of PTL, revealed at the Commission that Arjun Aloysius, the Chief Executive Officer of the PTL, had received a document in 2016 related to the COPE from Rosy’s son, the son of Rosy Senanayake. Rosy rejected the allegations stating that she was not a Member of Parliament at the time.

She was named a United Nations Population Fund Goodwill Ambassador in 1998. Senanayake was elected Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Malaysia in 2002. She held that position until 2004.

But if you meet me outside Parliament, I will describe them … My thoughts are running riot … I don’t want to reveal [them] to the public.” Senanayake was unimpressed, saying, “……As a woman you are not recognised as a person who has done so many portfolios, but always referred to as the beauty you were in your heyday. I consider that as a sexist remark.”
