Ross Philip Mintzer, born May 26, 1987, is an American musician. Since 2012, he has been the leader of the Ross Mintzer band. Mintzer was featured in the National Public Radio program From the Top. Mintzer started a girls’ chorus in Karachi, Pakistan in 2011. He was recognized by the National Association for Music Education.
Mintzer was among 29 high school students who were selected to perform in the Gibson/Baldwin Jazz Ensembles at the 47th Annual Grammy Music Awards. Mintzer performed with Benny Golson, an award-winning Jazz saxophonist, at the Fonda Theatre. He was also a featured performer with Michael Thurber on “From the Top”, a National Public Radio radio program. They performed J.S. Bach’s Two- Part Inventions No.1 & No.2 2. He also won the 28th Annual Downbeat Magazine Student Awards in both the Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist category and Jazz Instrumental Soloist category. Jazziz magazine invited him as a performer on the compilation album “Jazziz on Disc”, a limited-edition collector’s disc that was released with the October 2005 issue.
In 2012, he formed The Ross Mintzer Band. According to the band website, they have released two singles and one music video, and have performed in Chicago, St. Louis, Boulder, Madison, Los Angeles, and New York City. In February 2014, Mintzer was interviewed and played his song “Open Happiness” on NHK’s program “World Wave Morning.” He was conferred an “Honorary Life Membership” to the Tri-M Music Honor Society, a program of the National Association for Music Education, “For inspiring young musicians to achieve and for serving music education.” on May 5, 2014. Mintzer states that he uses Facebook to reach fans; his band’s Facebook page has over one million followers. On July 7, 2015, Mintzer performed, “The Star-Spangled Banner” in Colorado Springs, CO at Security Service Field before a Sky Sox baseball game.
