Rosie Gaines is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on June 26, 1960 in Oakland, California, United States. Gaines’ first solo album, Caring, was recorded in 1985. She followed that with No Sweeter Love, released in 1987. Both albums were released digitally on iTunes, despite not receiving much commercial interest.

Gaines started her own record label Dredlix Records and aimed to make her music available online. She released Arrival, an exclusive internet-only album in 1997. It was limited to 2,000 copies and only available through her official website.

She released a number of dance hits, the most notable being “Closer Than Close”, which made the top 10 in the UK Singles Chart in 1997. The song appeared on the compilation album Now 37, released in July 1997.

In 2003, she released her album You Gave Me Freedom through Dome Records in the UK. Gaines began recording her next solo album after a three-year stint with Prince & The NPG. This was between 1990 and 1992. A number of albums were recorded and a Concrete Jungle album was released on Paisley Park Records. It was never released due to a legal dispute between Prince and Warner Bros. Records. The album remained unreleased until 2010.

Prince continued to collaborate with Gaines from time to time. Prince produced the official remix of Gaines 1995 solo single, “I Want U” (Purple Version). Prince recorded the live version “Nothing Compares 2U”, which she released on 1993’s compilation album, The Hits/The Bi-Sides. She also performed vocals on “I Rock Therefore I Am” and “Jam Of The Year” from Prince’s 1996 Chaos and Disorder albums. Prince & The NPG released a re-recorded version “1999: The new Master” in 1999. In 1999, Gaines performed alongside Larry Graham and other members of The Family Stone in a special New Year concert. It was released on DVD under “Rave Un2 The Year2000”.

A club remix of Gaines’ song “Closer Than Close” was released as a single two years later, in 1997. The “Closer Than Close” remix was commercially very successful in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart,. It also charted on the Australian club charts and has appeared on numerous club compilation albums. The track earned Gaines a MOBO Award for Best International Single at the ’97 Awards show (beating the likes of P Diddy, previously known as Puff Daddy, R Kelly and Tina Moore), and inspired Gaines to record a follow-up club track, “I Surrender”, which was released later that year. The remix of “Closer Than Close” is now considered a club classic, and has been re-remixed a number times since its initial release.
