Rose Okoji Oko is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on September 27, 1956 in Cross River State, Nigeria. On 27 September 1956, she was born to Agbo Ojeka (Opkoma), Yala LGA (Cross River State) and her father Thomas Ojeka (also Opkoma). She was the youngest of her two siblings and her father’s seventh child. In 1977, she received her first School Leaving Certificate from WTC Primary School Enugu. She then attended Federal School of Arts & Science Ogoja in Cross River State in 1975 to obtain her Higher School Certificate (Nigeria). She graduated in 1981 with a 2nd class Upper in her B.A. (Hons.) Linguistics at the University of Calabar in Cross River state. The University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, offered a Graduate Course in Linguistics. Okoji Oko, a career educator, returned to University of Calabar where he received his M.A. Linguistics in 1984. In 1990, she received her doctorate in Linguistics from The University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State. She graduated from The Management Institute of Canada in 2007 after completing her doctorate.
Rose was an inactive member and registered as a part of the team that introduced the People’s Democratic Party to Cross River State in 1999. After she retired from the public service in 2002, Rose registered for and introduced the National Democratic Party to Cross River State. She also served as the Deputy Chair South, Board of Trustees of the NDP. Okoji Oko was a candidate for the Cross River State North Senatorial District senate seat under the NDP banner in 2003, when Nigeria held its first democratic elections since the transition from military to civilian rule. She lost the contest to the PDP candidate. She served as the chairman of the NDP party’s board of trustees until 2007. In 2007, Okoji Oko ran for Cross River State governor as the NDP candidate.
In that same year, she reenlisted as a member with the PDP and in the 2011 democratic elections ran for Member National Assembly, Federal House of Representatives. Yala/Ogoja Federal Constituency. A position she holds currently. She was elected as a senator and she represents the north of the state where she was born. There were over 100 senators elected in the 8th National Assembly in 2015, but only six of these were women. The others were Stella Oduah and Uche Ekwunife who both represent Anambra. Fatimat Raji Rasaki, Oluremi Tinubu and Binta Garba.
In 2019, she was reelected as Senator representing Cross River State Northern Senatorial District for her second term, and was appointed as Chairman Senate Committee on Trades and Investment.
She was named Director General, National Defence & Security Council in 1993. This position was held simultaneously with the National Commission, National Electoral Commission. She was again appointed Director General of the Provisional Ruling Council under the Military Presidency in 1993 and 1994. In 1995, she was named (NCFR), now National Commission For Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons. She retired in 2002.

Rose Okoji Oko, born 27 September 1956 and died 23 March 2020. She was a senator and politician from Nigeria. She was a member of the Federal House of Representatives of the People’s Democratic Party, representing Yala/Ogoja Federal Constituency at Nigeria’s 7th National Assembly. In June 2011, she was elected as the first female representative of her constituency and served as Deputy Chairman House Committee on Education. She represented Cross River North Senatorial District. In June 2015, she was elected as the first female senatorial district representative.
Okoji Oko began her career as a tutor at Edgerly Memorial Girls Secondary school, Calabar, in 1981. She taught at St. Patricks College in Calabar from 1982 to 1983 and then moved to Akampka, Cross River School of Basic Studies Akampka. This position she held until 1984, when she moved to Calabar to be an assistant lecturer in the Department of Language and Linguistics. She was promoted to Lecturer in 1986. She was 33 years old when she was elected Commissioner of Education, Cross River State. This position she held until 1991. From 1990 to 1991, she was also Chairperson of Cross River Chapter’s Better Life Programme.
