- She was a Mexican politician and Secretary of Social Development for the Enrique Pena Nieto cabinet. In 2000, Cuauhtemoc Cardenas quit the position to run for the Mexican presidency. She was also the substitute Head of the Federal District (“Mayor de Mexico City”) She was Mexico’s first female mayor.
Robles was taken into custody on August 8, 2019, and charged with stealing MXN$4,6 trillion (US$250,000,000). She is facing seven years imprisonment.
Rosario Robles is currently implicated in the largest State racketeering scam: La Estafa Maestra. The master scam is the title of a journalistic investigation that was conducted by the Mexican Animal Politico news site in collaboration with the Mexican civil society organization Against Corruption and Impunityl. The investigation was published on September 5, 2017. It revealed a network that included 11 state agencies, 8 public universities, and over 50 public servants at different levels of government.
