He was born 27 July 1972 in Calamba City (Laguna, Philippines). He was the winner of both the 2006 WPA World Nineball Championship and 2007 WPA World Eightball Championship.
Alcano, who came in as an underdog in the semifinals, beat German Ralf Suquet 17-11 at the 2006 WPA Men’s World Nineball Championship. Gerry Forsyth, an ESPN commentator, said that Alcano can only be stopped by putting a rattlesnake into his pocket and then asking him about Alcano’s performance. After Efren Reyes’ 1999 title, he became the second Filipino World Champion (excluding Alex Pagulayan in 2004). Alcano was on the verge of being eliminated in group play during the November 2006 tournament before he took advantage of a soft-break. Alcano won only one of three group matches, and he was the 64th seed. Alcano defeated Wu Chia-ching, the defending champion, and Reyes in the knockout stage to advance to the final. Alcano won the tournament and won US$100,000. This is the highest first prize in the world nine-ball championship.
In an attempt to defend his title at the 2007 World Nine-ball Championship, Alcano was bested in the last 64 by Daryl Peach of the United Kingdom who ultimately won the title.
On 16 September 2007, Alcano finished second to Antonio Gabica in the Philippine Nine-ball Open.
Alcano was back in the East for the 2005 WPA Asian Nineball Tour. He won the Manila tournament (11-6 against Yang Ching-shun) and qualified for the world championship.

Alcano’s rise to fame in the Philippines started with his performance at the 2000 Rising Stars Tournament. Alcano was favored to win title in final.
