Ronald Steven Latz, a Minnesota politician and member the Minnesota Senate was born August 9, 1963. A member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL), he represents District 46, which includes portions of Hennepin County in the western Twin Cities metropolitan area. He is an attorney by trade.

Latz was elected first to the Senate in 2006. He was re-elected in 2010 as well 2012.

Before being elected to the Senate Latz was a member of Minnesota’s House of Representatives representing District 44B. (Prior to 2002 legislative redistricting the area was called District 44A). In 2002, he was elected first to the House and re-elected in 2004. He was a member of the Capital Investment, Civil Law and Education Policy and Reform committees. Robert Latz, his father, was also a member of the House. He represented the old districts 35-39 from 1959 to 1967.

Latz was a graduate of Golden Valley High School, Golden Valley, and Lindberg High School, Hopkins. He received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He graduated in 1981 from Golden Valley High School in Golden Valley and Lindberg High School in Hopkins. Latz is active in various community and government councils and boards. From 1994 to 2003, he was a member the St. Louis Park City Council and also served as Mayor Pro Tem between 1999 and 2003. He was a member of the Minnesota Attorney general’s task forces for Privacy and Health Care. He was also the former State Advocacy Chair for the American Cancer Society. He was also a member of Anti-Defamation League Civil Rights Education committees and a former member the Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable housing.

He served as a majority whip from 2007 to 2011. His special legislative concern is education.
