Roman Valentinovich Kopin, Russian: Roman Valentinovich Kopin; born 5 March 1974, Kostroma Oblast), is the governor for Chukotka, Russia. In July 2008, he succeeded Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich.
Kopin started his political career in 1994 as deputy director at the Nizhniy Nogorod Regional Centre for Youth Initiatives. He was an inspector at the legal department in 1995. Later, he was the leader of the Kostroma custom group that dealt with custom law infringement. Kopin was employed in 1998 at the Kostroma branch of SBS-Agro bank. Kopin was appointed advisor to Aleksandr Nazarov in 1999. He was at that time the governor of Chukotka. Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich, Nazarov’s nephew, was also advised by Kopin. Kopin was elected chief of the Chaunskiy municipal union in December 2001. He was elected chief of the Bilibinskiy municipal district two years later in December 2003. Kopin won more than 70% of the votes in these elections.
