Roger Kirby is one of the most popular and richest Professional Wrestler who was born on December 14, 1939 in Muncie, United States. Roger Sinclair Kirby FRCS (Urol), FEBU was born November 1950. He is a retired British prostatologist and professor of urology. He is co-founder and president of The Urology Foundation (TUF), vice president of Prostate Cancer UK and trustee of King Edward VII’s Hospital. He was also past chair of The Academic Board of Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), London.
After completing his medical education at St John’s College in Cambridge, and Middlesex Hospital in London, he was awarded a distinction in surgery. He then took several surgical positions in Cheltenham and Wolverhampton. In 1979, he was made a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also received a traveling scholarship to Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, USA. After completing his medical education, he earned an MD and was elected the Hunterian Professorship. His lecture entitled “The Investigations and Management of the Neurogenic Bladder”. He was named consultant urologist at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London in 1986. John Wickham later succeeded him and he became the first UK urologist to perform open radical prostatectomy.
In 1986, as the PSA test was coming into use, Kirby was appointed consultant urologist at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, and later took over from John Wickham. He subsequently became one of the first urologists in the UK to perform open radical prostatectomy for localised prostate cancers.
In 1995, Kirby helped found two charities: Prostate Research Campaign and The British Urological Foundation, later renamed The Urology Foundation, which was established with funds from the British Journal of Urology International and the British Association of Urological Surgeons. His fundraising activities have included climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, trekking in Nepal and cycling across the Andes. By 2005, he had completed three London Marathons.
His first job in a house was at Cheltenham General Hospital. There he worked alongside Peter Boreham who encouraged him to study urology, particularly prostate disease. He was promoted to Wolverhampton and Gloucester in the following years. In 1979, he was awarded the final Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons. Kirby later explained how many people didn’t know about the prostate gland in the 1970s. He had seen a lot of patients with prostate cancer, including people who had blocked their urine flow. There were also people suffering from inflammation, which can cause pain. He was only able to offer two options for prostate cancer patients: either removing the testicles, or a procedure that removes the middle.

Roger Kirby was the son of Janet Kirby and Kenneth Kirby. He was a professor in biochemistry and a fellow of the Royal Society. He was also the head of cell chemistry at the Chester Beatty Research Institute. Kirby was 16 when he died in 1967, at the age 49.
Kirby received his medical sciences degree from St John’s College in Cambridge in 1972. He then completed his clinical training at Middlesex Hospital in London where he was inspired and guided by Richard Turner-Warwick, a leading urologist. In 1975, he received his MB BChir in Cambridge with distinction in surgery. This was the turning point that led to surgery over cardiology.
In 1985, Kirby spent five weeks at the Duke University Medical Center, North Carolina, USA, on a Royal College of Surgeons Travelling Scholarship. He then gained his MD in 1986 from Cambridge. In the same year, he was elected the Hunterian professorship with a lecture titled “The Investigation and Management of the Neurogenic Bladder”. It was published in the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, where Kirby showed how the use of EMG could distinguish between people with pelvic nerve injury, distal autonomic neuropathy, progressive autonomic failure – multiple system atrophy, and idiopathic Parkinson’s disease, thus influencing the selection of people for surgery via the urethra.

In 2005, Kirby established The Prostate Centre in Wimpole Street, London. He had previously been watching the development of robotic prostatectomies, which provided better vision of the pelvic nerves, and in 2005, for the purpose of performing laparoscopic prostatectomies, a da Vinci surgical robot was purchased by the Centre. This provided better vision of the pelvic nerves and at the age of 55, he became one of the first surgeons in England to use one. From 2005, the Centre therefore offered minimally invasive laparoscopic prostatectomy with a more holistic approach, advising on a wide range of men’s health, including diet and exercise.
