Woomble was a columnist for The Sunday Herald and began writing a monthly column called ‘Woomble’s Way’ for the UK’s hillwalking magazine TGO in November 2008.
In March 2011, Woomble released his second solo album, The Impossible Song & Other Songs.
Woomble co-curated a 2007 studio album by Scottish writers and musicians called Ballads of the Book. He also recorded an album in 2008 with John McCusker and Kris Drever, folk musicians known as Before the Ruin.

Woomble collaborated with many musicians in 2006, including Kate Rusby and Ailidh Lennon. He also performed with Karine Polwart, a songwriter, at Celtic Connections. Rod Jones, an Idlewild guitarist, recorded his solo album My Secret is my Sience, which was produced by John McCusker. Woomble toured the UK in support of the release of the album in July 2006. My Secret is My Silence reached number 1 in the UK Folk Charts. A year later, My Secret is My Silence, was released in the USA on 7-10 Music.
Woomble’s follow-up album, Before the Ruin, written and recorded with Kris Drever and John McCusker, was released on 15 September 2008 through Navigator Records.
