Rocky Ty Cherry, born August 19, 1979, is an American former professional pitcher. He was a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Chicago Cubs as well as the Baltimore Orioles.
The Cubs traded Scott Moore, third baseman, and Cherry to the Orioles in August 2007 for Steve Trachsel, their starting pitcher. Cherry was on the 15-day disabled with a shoulder strain and began 2008 on the list. Cherry was currently on rehab assignment to Triple-A Norfolk Tides as of May 20. While a Baltimore Orioles member, he was the last visiting pitcher at the Yankee Stadium. He played there on September 21, 2008.
On March 24, 2009, Cherry signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox. He was released on August 18, 2009.
In December 2008, Cherry was selected by the New York Mets in the 2008 Rule 5 draft. He was released by the Mets on March 17, 2009, after the Baltimore Orioles declined to take him back.
Cherry made his major league debut with the Cubs on April 23rd 2007, against the Milwaukee Brewers as a relief player. He lost in his MLB debut but won his first major league win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 1.

Cherry was a pitcher for the University of Oklahoma between 2000 and 2002. Cherry was mostly used in relief his first season but was a full-time starter when he graduated from school. His overall record was 18-16, with 208 innings of pitched. He played college summer baseball for the Brewster Whitecaps, Cape Cod Baseball League in 2000.
Cherry was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 10th round, but he didn’t sign. He signed with the Chicago Cubs as a 14th-round pick in the 2001 entry draft. His first three minor league seasons (2003 to 2005) were his starters. Cherry’s 2005 season was over after three appearances with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, Double-A Southern League. He then had Tommy John surgery. Cherry was a full-time reliever when he returned from West Tenn in 2006. In mid-July, he suffered a severe injury to his middle finger while pitching. This also required surgery.
On August 21, 2009, Cherry signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres. He was granted free agency on November 9, 2009.
