Van Nus was Australia’s number one woman in her discipline in 2011. She broke the Australian women’s air rifle record in Brisbane, shooting 397 of 400 shots during a July 2011 national tournament. She participated in the Australia Cup Final in Sydney in October 2011 but was forced to withdraw mid-competition due to a back injury. She had only shot nine of her 40 shots. She was chosen to represent Australia in the shooting event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. London was her second Games.
Van Nus participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Women’s Air Rifle 10m event, where she placed 44th overall, and in Women’s Small-Bore Rifle Three Positions 50m event, where she placed 40th overall. Susannah Smith challenged her entry to the 2008 Games. Van Nus won by one point over Smith. She was a competitor at the 2010 Commonwealth Shooting Championship and earned a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle event, with a score 494.2 (394). Aletha Sedgman, her partner in the 10m air rifle pairs for women, finished sixth. Her gun and all her equipment were lost during transit from Delhi to Delhi, which caused her some problems.

She was a member the Melbourne International Shooting Club. She was also a member in 2012 of the Kalamunda Smallbore rifle club. She is a recipient of a shooting scholarship from the Western Australian Institute of Sport.
