Robyn Davidson is one of the most popular and richest Explorer who was born on September 6, 1950 in Miles City, Montana, United States. Robyn Davidson was born 6 September 1950. She is an Australian writer, best known for Tracks, a book about her 1,700-mile journey across Western Australia with camels. Her 40-year career in travelling and writing about her experiences has taken her around the world.

In 1978, the National Geographic article was published. It attracted so much attention that Davidson decided to publish a book about it. While writing Tracks, she traveled to London with Doris Lessing. Tracks was awarded the first Thomas Cook Travel Book Award in 1980, and the Blind Society Award. Smolan published his photos of the trip in From Alice To Ocean in the early nineties. It featured the first interactive story-and photo CDs for the general public.

Davidson is the subject of a song written by Irish folk singer and songwriter Mick Hanly. The song, “Crusader”, was recorded by Mary Black on her 1983 self- titled album.

The majority of Davidson’s work has been travelling with and studying nomadic peoples. Jane Sullivan in The Age writes that ‘while she is often called a social anthropologist’, she has no academic qualifications and claims to be “completely self-taught”. Davidson’s experiences with nomads include traveling on migration with nomads in India from 1990 to 1992. These experiences were published in Desert Places.

Davidson left Alice Springs in 1977 to travel west with a dog, four camels, Dookie (a large male), Bub, Zeleika (a wild male), and Goliath (Zeleika’s offspring). Although she had not intended to write about the trip, she eventually agreed to write an article in National Geographic. After meeting Rick Smolan, a photographer from Alice Springs, she insists that he be the photographer of the entire journey. Smolan, who she shared a “on-again, off- again” relationship with during the trip, drove three times to meet her during the nine-month journey.
