She attended Michigan State University and then Tisch School of the Arts in New York University. After graduating with honors from NYU, she received a BFA (undergraduate drama) and a BFA (undergraduate drama). She has 18 albums of piano music. She currently resides in New Freedom, Pennsylvania.

Spielberg has toured both domestically and internationally. Three sold-out performances at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York City are some of the highlights. She has also visited South Korea three times, appearing at the KBS Hall, Seoul Arts Center, and the LG Arts Center (2010). Spielberg has been signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing in Asia. She was a founding member and actor in many plays by the Atlantic Theater Company, including Boys’ Live (which won a Drama Desk award as Outstanding Ensemble Performance) at Lincoln Center and The Lights of Howard Korder. She composed the music for many Atlantic Theater Company productions, including the David Mamet version of Three Sisters by William H. Macy. It covered recording and releasing two albums each year for three years. The following titles were issued under the North Star label during this period: Heal of the Hand (1993), Spirit of the Holidays (94), featuring Christmas-themed tracks; Unchained Melodies (95), In the Heart of Winter (95), Songs of the Spirit (1996), and In the Arms of the Wind (1997). North Star also released Spa Piano (2007) and Mother (1999). The first is a collaboration between Cathie Ryan (singer) and Susan McKeown (songs celebrating motherhood). Spielberg purchased the masters from North Star in 2011 and had them released under her label.

Spielberg is author of the memoir Naked on the Bench (2013), which Kirkus called a “well-paced musical memoir about the value of perseverance” which avoids sentimentality and balances happy moments with darker content such as being stalked. Spielberg also writes about music therapy in her memoir.
