Le Mesurier loved The Faces in his prime and the guitar players Jimi Hendrix and John Lee Hooker. He also enjoyed Muddy Waters and Jeff Beck. The Reign was his first band. Its first single was written and produced by Jim McCarty and Keith Relf, Yardbirds members. The band lasted until 1973 when Le Mesurier was appointed guitarist of The Wombles. This novelty rock band featured musicians who wore the costumes from The Wombles (a British children’s television series).
Le Mesurier, at the start of his collaborations with Rod Stewart was primarily a guitarist-technical and session man. In 1976, he signed with an affiliated record company to Rod Stewart. In 1977, he toured the US as the opening act for Rod Stewart’s Air Supply. He was then invited to join Rod Stewart’s group in 1980 after a stint with Lion.
In September 2015, Le Mesurier joined Rod Stewart and Rolling Stone Ron Wood for the Faces reunion.
